Sanderson Space: Girl's Camp 2008

This year camp was in the Uinta Mountains. It's about 15 miles out of Kamas. During the day it got to about 75/80 degrees but during the night it would drop below 30. The first night we had some girls get really cold but we had worked out all the kinks by the next night. Our theme like I posted before was BUGS (building upon gospel standards). We had a really great time with a lot of great activities. I know this is a big post but we had so much fun, I had to share. I've got a few posts of things that happened just before I left but I'll get to those later.

One of our priesthood men brought his projector. We draped a white sheet, set up camping chairs, popped popcorn over the fire and had a movie night. "It's a Bugs Life"

The following morning I woke the girls up at 5:00 for a sunrise hike and devotional. They were good sports. It was PRETTY COLD until the sun came up but the hike was beautiful!!

The YW president's husband is quite the outdoors man, both our priesthood men are. They took good care of us and made sure we stayed safe. They also rigged up their repelling gear and taught each of the girls how to use it. All but two tried it off the cliff. There were some slips (the top was a little rounded and they were afraid to sit into it). There were some tears (one girl cried every time she backed to the edge. We told her she didn't have to do it and she would just cry "but I want to so bad!" and she did).

I did just fine until Jeremy decided to pull the rope tight when my feet were 5 inches from the ground. I dangled for a while while he laughed.

On Friday we took the girls to Provo Falls for "solo time". For 30 min each day we let them go off by themselves to read their scriptures, write in their journal and on this particular day we had letters from their parents and from the bishopric for them to read.

On the way back down to camp we took a little detour to go through some snow drifts...and we got stuck. We called on the radio for the others to come back to pull us out. While we were waiting we decided to have some fun w/ the camera. (We were completely high centered so all four wheels would spin w/ no movement at all, we didn't really try to get ourselves out like this...there was no way!)

After we got unstuck we stopped for lunch by mirror lake, and had a snow ball fight.

SKIT NIGHT!! Friday the Bishopric came up to make us dinner. Each of the tents put together a skit. Including the leaders. Ours was a short Bug's Life with all the best one liners from the film.
